Mr. Karamat Qayum is dedicated to representing the immigrant community. Born in Medellín, Colombia. Mr. Qayum arrived to the United States when he was 10 years old. He was actually undocumented in the United States for a period of time. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Mr. Qayum graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Florida International University. While obtaining his undergraduate degree, he interned with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, where he gained invaluable knowledge of the criminal justice process. He is a proud alumni of Florida International University’s College of Law.
During law school he participated in the Immigrant Children’s Justice Clinic, where he represented immigrant children facing removal. He also participated in the Community Development Clinic, where he provided legal counsel and transactional services to small businesses and non-profit organizations.
Mr. Qayum served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Judge Stacy D. Glick. In addition, he was a law clerk with the United States Department of Justice Executive Office for Immigration Review, where he advised and drafted legal decisions for immigration judges on issues involving removal cases. He later worked for a prestigious immigration firm in Coral Gables.
