Illya-Karina Bonet is a litigation attorney with over ten years of experience. Since September 2009, she has exclusively practiced immigration law at some of Miami's top immigration law firms. She earned a Bachelors of Art in Fine Arts (Summa Cum Laude) from Syracuse University in 1999.
In 2003, she obtained her first law degree (Cum Laude) from Puerto Rico's top law school--the University of Puerto Rico School of Law. In 2008, she earned a Master's of Law degree in International Human Rights Law (with honors) from Northwestern University School of Law in Chicago, Illinois.
Ms. Bonet's formal studies in areas such as International Human Rights Law, Refugees and Asylum Law and Immigration Law has led her to feature as teacher, lecturer and guest speaker on important subjects like International Law, Refugee and Asylum Law, Human and Civil Rights, Global Society and Criminal Procedure at the University of Puerto Rico School of Law and the Inter American University in Puerto Rico, among others.
She is well acquainted with the laws, regulations and multiple forms of relief available to immigrants and non-immigrants alike. Her experience and in-depth knowledge in the field of immigration law has allowed her to successfully represent her clients before the U.S. Immigration and Citizenship Service (USCIS), U.S. Immigration Courts around the nation, U.S. Consulates abroad and the Immigration Customs and Borders agency (ICE). Although Ms. Bonet's offices are located in Florida and Puerto Rico, she successfully represents the interests of clients across the United States of America and abroad.
She is a member in good standing of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico (U.S. Territory), the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the Puerto Rican Bar Association (Colegio de Abogados de Puerto Rico), the Puerto Rican Bar Association of Florida, the Hispanic National Bar Association and the American Immigration and Lawyers Association (AILA).
