Joyner Aguiar, Esq. is the founding attorney of The Aguiar Law Firm. As someone who immigrated from Brazil, as a child—and knowing all too well the immigration barriers that many people face in the United States—Ms. Aguiar has always had a passion for helping immigrants to prosper in the United States.

Her experience in immigration began as an intern and legal assistant to various immigration law firms, while still a student at the University of Florida, where she later graduated with honors. She went on to earn her Juris Doctorate degree at St. Thomas University School of Law.

While in law school she served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Judge Barbara Areces, where she assisted in family law proceedings including but not limited to divorce, child support, paternity, and time sharing. She also served under Michael Vastine, Esq., as a Student Representative for St. Thomas’ Immigration Clinic, where she successfully resolved inadmissibility issues for clients in removal proceedings and filed petitions on behalf of victims of crime.

Upon admission to The Florida Bar, Ms. Aguiar worked for a boutique Business Immigration law firm in Miami; earning experience in employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant petitions such as Extraordinary Ability Petitions, National Interest Waivers, O-1 visas, Treaty Investors (E-2 visas), as well as Intracompany Transferees (L-1 visa).

Ms. Aguiar also served as an Associate Attorney for a fast-paced, high-volume, and dynamic immigration firm in Miami. During her time there, she successfully represented clients with complicated and unique inadmissibility issues rooted in family-based petitions, as well as questions of eligibility in naturalization applications.

At the Aguiar Law Firm, she continues to zealously represent clients in all stages of removal proceedings, before various Immigration courts throughout the United States, which include but are not limited to: bond hearings, master hearings, and several individual hearings. Ms. Aguiar also represents clients at the appellate stage, preparing appellate briefs and motions for the Board of Immigration Appeals. Much of her practice also involves representing clients with issues in “post orders of removal,” including Orders of Supervision at several different Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) offices, waivers after orders of removal, and motions to reopen before the immigration court.

Ms. Aguiar is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish. She is a member of the Florida Bar.
